Trouble with UFOs-Episode 7: Watcher 203 in Section 57

Trouble with UFOs
Episode 7: Watcher 203 in Section 57

Jared, Penny and Taffy in Trouble With UFOs.
In a lab in an undisclosed location, people worked at cubicles each watching a bank of computer monitors. In one particular cubicle a red warning light flashed. Watcher 203 typed a few keys and pushed back from his desk.

The man had Indian features. His parents had both been born in India, but he had never spent one minute there. They'd even Americanized their last name in order to fit in better in the United States.

Jared Watson was one of the to watchers in Section 57. But this was the first time one of his wards had come under distress. He analyzed the data quickly as it came in. But the conditions bombarding Taffy Appleton was beyond his expertise.

He knocked at the director's office door.

"Come," said the man sitting in a high back chair. He dramatically swiveled around. His hair was unnaturally black and his skin pale. "What can I do for you, Jay?"

"It's Jay, sir," he said trying not to appear annoyed at his boss' constant misuse of his name. "One of my operatives as gone red. "

"Red, huh?" The man flipped through a large volume on his desk. He spoke the words as he read them. "Encounter with foreign technology." He glanced up at Jared. "Do you know what we're looking at here?"

The director hadn't gotten his job because he was a good manager. Jared had a theory the director had lost a bet with a buddy and now was stuck in Section 57.

"No, sir. The alarm went off yesterday. And now we have a blinking hazard light."

"Blinking?" The director looked at him blankly. "That's bad, right?"

"Yes, it's very bad. It is one of the protocols which require immediately action."

"Okay, okay. Maybe we can give you a few days off from watching in order to follow up on this problem."

"I have a double case load, sir," Jared explained. "I'm not sure anyone can take on my clients on the fly like this."

"Every one of the operatives of Section 57 was hired based in specialized training in specific areas. It may not be an easy task, but I'm sure they can handle it," the director said. "Oh, and Jay? Leave tonight."

As he exited the office, he muttered, "The name is Jared."

"How is she?" Penny asked coming up behind Clark.

"We've managed to stabilize her. I had Jack seal the slide in a metal room on the other side of the base. Proximity seems to be important to the foreign nanos. Which makes me think they don't come out until something is close to her."

"You're thinking aliens, right? Because I'm thinking aliens."

"No," he said in a straightforward tone. "There has to be a logical explanation for this," Clarke Jenkins said.

"Logical? We're on the other side of logical. The girl has technology in her head that can't possibly be from here."

Clarke stilled as an idea came to him. "unless someone with high level clearance is doing experimental research."

"You mean someone here is using her?" Penny asked. "That is so not cool."

"What I'm saying is maybe there was more than one reason she was brought here." Clarke grabbed his notebook and walked toward the door. "Go and stay with Helen tonight. I want to know at least someone is safe."

With that he marched out of the lab. Penny didn't know where.
